Marsha PippengerThe great artist Alexander Calder once wrote to his grandniece:“Above all, I feel art should be happy.”As a visual artist and teacher of art, Marsha Pippenger tries to bring that joy of creating to the classroom. Creating art should not only be joyful, it should also be stimulating, enriching, and fun. It can also be, at times, frustrating and messy! In other words, art covers the spectrum (no pun intended) of emotions and experiences.Marsha holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ohio Northern University and a Masters of Humanities degree from Wright State University, where she teaches art history. In addition, she is a Kennedy Center trained artist, specializing in arts integration, conducting visual arts workshops and performances for teachers and students. She previously worked in graphic arts, taught art in the Dayton Public Schools, and was a founding owner/artist of Conversation Pieces Gallery in Tipp City. One of her most enriching art education experiences was an 18 month independent study with internationally-known artist Willis “Bing” Davis, another artist who communicates the great joy in artmaking.Marsha brings to the classroom her own expertise as an active visual artist combined with her experience as a teacher. She believes that every child has his or her own unique creative ability, that art making can build confidence and lead to success in other subject areas. Marsha’s workshops are built around these core beliefs and meet grade-level Ohio Academic content standards.Marsha’s own colorful collage work can be found on her websites: www.pippengerart.com;www.pippengerart.etsy.com; and http://artid.com/pipart. Read her commentary on art at DaytonMostMetro.com. Marsha is represented by the Cannery Art and Design Center in Dayton.STATEMENTIn all object making that aspect which relates to its conceptual interpretation is ART.That which relates the object to an intended purpose is DESIGN.And the quality of its execution is CRAFT….Hella Basu“This is my philosophy of art-making, the guide I use in creating and teaching art. I also believe that this purposeful statement applies to most other aspects of life and learning. If students can conceive of an idea, relate that idea to an intent or purpose, and execute their idea well, they will not only have learned their subject, they will understand it.I love what I do. Art is such an essential part of our world; it records our history and reminds us of our humanity. Art feeds the soul. To be even a small part of that grand tradition, to have even a minute association with the masters, and to communicate that tradition to others, is an honor and responsibility I am proud to uphold.”Marsha M Pippenger208 W WOODBURY DRDAYTON OHIO 45415937 278-7981EMAIL: [email protected]WEBSITES: www.pippengerart.com;www.pippengerart.etsy.com;http://artid.com/pipart
